The history of the brewery

In the Town of Nova Paka, first beer was brewed in the 13th century in a wooden brewery, which was placed in the town's main square. After about 600 years and many fires it was decided by the town folks to construct a new brewery. In 1871, the "Company for Construction of Brewery and Malthouse" came into existence. Laying a foundation stone in the same year, the construction of a new building in the Neo-Gothic style had been started. It was finished in the following year when the brewery produced its first brew. The brewery quickly became one of Nova Paka's prospering enterprises, and brewing has not paused even during the times of war or economic depressions. It was imbedded into the national enterprise Czechoslovak Breweries in 1984. It was twice decided to stop production, for the last time in January 1988 as the Central Planning Comitee deemed the capacity unneeded. It was successfully achieved by the director Mr. Daniel Vasa to shift this dead-line to the end of 1989 and this moment enabled to start a new chapter of the brewery's existence. In the years 1991 to 1993 full reconstruction begannot only of the building but also of the technological equipment was carried out to enable competing in the brewing and going on the prosperity in present days and in the future.
